Getting a puppy
I’ve wanted a dog all my life, but wasn’t allowed one when I was a child and because of work commitments it’s never been the right time as a supposed grown up - until now!

We’re getting a Cockapoo (I know, it’s not a lab or a hard man dog, but we need something with minimal shedding and my children love them).

Any hints/tips etc about a first timer with a dog from all you experts gratefully received!

Cheers

A cockapoo...... sigh......

Be expected to be ripped off.... for basically... a mongrel... how people can charge almost double for designer mongrels is beyond me... and app' one of the most nickable dogs around at the mo so get a good insurance that covers being stolen...

Regarding buying one (join a waiting list probably)... make sure you always see the pup with the Mum... in the house you are buying it from... if anything does not look right or if the dealer wants to meet at a service station walk well away... puppy farmed... it will cost you probably thousands in vet bills ... and that is if the puppy survives.

Regarding bringing the Puppy in your home...?

... get back to us when you have bought it...

Dog is the best thing you'll ever have come into your life. I don't trust people who don't like dog's.

Kenzo... yeah I think we are seriously looking at that when our Black Lab pops his clogs... he's 12.5 years old now... dementia'ed up but still has a good life high as a kite on CBP oil but still get him to walk on average 3 to 4 miles a day... out of his litter of 9 he's last one left standing

Helpful stuff, thanks everyone!!

We tried a few places for rescue dogs as well, but there were none available in a few places and others are being (rightly) even more careful than usual about who dogs go to as demand has sky rocketed during lockdown and they didn’t have dogs they felt were suitable for first time owners. They’re all anticipating a mass influx in 12 months time as I think to them the whole year has been like a ‘a dog is for life not just for Christmas’ and they are aware that lots and lots of people have got a dog now as it works for them, but may not do when things are a little more normal

We saw her at the weekend and are due to pick her up in 4 weeks time. I’m stupidly excited for someone who is nearly 40!

Re: Getting a puppy
I dont get why you subservient cunts want to go round picking up your dog's shit and carrying it around in your pocket in one of those little bags. Then you get to go home to a smelly house that's full of fleas.

Just how needy are you lot exactly?

Re: Getting a puppy
My Staffy is 14 which is rare for his breed and he is still going strong walking 3/4 miles a day, going a bit Mutton though. Will only look at rescues, some breeds have been overbred and caused some of these issues.

FUN FACT: Everyone has rehomed dogs over lockdown and the only dogs available are potential lifers with Serious issues.

We are now coming around to having another dog in our lives after losing Max but I am not paying out £3k for a pup and whilst I don't mind putting in a lot of work on training there is a difference between training and socialising and Minne the Cockerpoos needs:

"Meet Minnie! She is looking for a very specific, active, training minded home who can see past her looks and see her for the ongoing training project she will be.

She has multiple ongoing training needs including managing her behaviour around other dogs, guarding various items and people in different scenarios and meeting strangers to name a few.

Minnie is looking to live in a home with ONE adult only and no visiting children
To be the only pet in the home.

She is receiving ongoing training around other dogs and will need to live in a RURAL area where she is able to actively avoid them. As she is not allowed off lead when on her walks she must have a private, secure garden with no neighbouring dogs.

Minnie struggles to be left at home on her own and will need an owner who is at home all day and is willing to also do training in this area.
Minnie has medical conditions which require ongoing treatment.

Minnie likes to gaslight her owners, has seven different personalities and is a big fan of Satan.

We took in a rescue dog that used to belong to an ironmonger. Old habit die hard I guess, as when we got him home he made a bolt for the door.

Soldo

We’ve seen her with her mum and the others in the litter (my mums friend bought a puppy years back and it ended up being some puppy farm when she went to visit the first time, when she asked to see the mum the woman there just grabbed a random dog of the same breed from a kennel and said ‘that’s it’ and the puppy wouldn’t go near it)

The breeders said it’s the second litter from this dog but they wouldn’t look to do it again, but the mum dog is lovely and the breeders were too. They’ve kept in contact with all the owners from the last litter, and said they even refunded one person as their child turned out to be allergic. They seem genuine enough.

I’m just hoping it’ll be easier to train than children are...

Mongrels are great. We’ve had our dog’s home bratchet (there’s a German Shepard in there while the other half is pretty much everything) for two months now. She’s absolutely lovely and is learning how to relax after the first three years of her life spent basically in prison though it will be a while before she learns to accept other dogs in a secure manner. The cats are getting over the initial shock as well having taken up strategic positions upstairs in my study - she’s nothing but a big softie really.

Re: Getting a puppy
Minnie sounds a nice dog.

Reminds me of this whacking great Mastiff a friend of mine rescued. Turns out you couldn't turn your back on the cunt or he'd wipe you out and then try to rip your throat out. Nice dog. This was not mentioned when she took the dog on. Got taken back to the rescue centre, presumably to kill some other cunts kids or grandmother. These rescue places are irresponsible cunts.

Re: Getting a puppy
Good luck. We have a 5 month old Maltipoo.

Its hard work and you need to persevere. Sometimes you will be tearing you hair out! My advise based on what little experience we have had is that you get out what you put in. Especially when it comes to things like socilaisation and training.

- Crate at night.
- take out every 45-60 mins for a wee. keep a bag of treats by the door. Wee = Treat.
- Feed a raw diet.
- Get it out the house a soon as possible (carry if not had injections)
- socialise with other dogs as early as possible.
- Start training as soon as possible.
- if you are working from home, make sure you start leaving the dog on own asap. This is going to be our biggest downfall as dog has bearly been left alone.

DM me if you want some details on the puppy classes we did - great for general tips, what to buy (harnesses, leads, foods) and starting to get some disciplline.
